Welcome to the Space: 1999 Omega Diary
What is This, Anyway?
This diary will be an ongoing (yet mostly spoiler-free) log of the development of the novel
Space: 1999 Omega.
I can't promise how often it will be updated, but I'll try to keep at it. Drop me a line if
you're enjoying it, though, but don't ask for secrets...

September 26th, 2010
Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen
Welcome to the long promised final entry in the Omega Diary. As it turned out, there
was a lot more of a story to tell than a posting on a web site can really encapsulate, so
instead of a final posting, I'm announcing "Chasing the Cyclops: The Making of the
Powysverse Mythology" -- a book-length bookumentary about the mythology and the
writing of both Omega and Alpha.
Alpha, you say?
Well, in case you weren't paying attention in March of 2010, Omega had a secret sequel,
so the other book I'd referred to as having started in an earlier post was naturally that
book, and the "interesting" things about the outline involved a triple outline -- an
overriding story arc for the two books, then individual outlines for each of the two novels
themselves.
I think you'll agree that if nothing more, we know how to keep a secret at Powys!
Chasing the Cyclops is nearly finished -- we hope to have it out by Thanksgiving (late
November). You'll find the original significantly different outlines of the two books, my
original story treatment and first chapter of a book that ultimately became the brell, the
position paper that started it all in 2001, lobbying for the return of Victor Bergman, along
with some startling revelations on how these two books ended up following a well
known mythological structure without even intending to do so. You'll see Martin Willey's
detailed comments on having read the first drafts of the two books. All this and more,
coming later in 2010.
As was also announced today, I'll be writing the novel "Children of the Gods" based on
Johnny Byrne's unproduced script for 2011.
So, this particular diary may be finished, and thanks for following it, but the story doesn't
end here. As you may have realized, this diary was really a kind of propaganda, a way to
get you worrying about the story, all to help setup the ultimate surprise of a cliffhanger
ending and a surprise sequel. It's hard to argue with results! We were telling a story
about manipulation, and we manipulated you every way we could!
Omega and Alpha were really meant to be my farewell to Space:1999. Right now,
however, they feel like more of a beginning than an end.
I shall return.
